Orientation Sessions for the Teacher Attachment Program
in collaboration with
Ed-Links

The educational setup of a country is linked to the quality of its teacher professional development and education programs. As a strong advocate of quality education rooted in the professional capacity building of education providers, CGN-P recently took part in orientation sessions preparing teachers to take part in Ed-Links sponsored Teacher Attachment Program, a component of the Improved Teacher education and Professional Development Program being run by Edlinks.

The teacher attachment program is a six week long exercise during which 32 elementary school teachers from public schools of Islamabad and areas of Sindh and Baluchistan will travel to the USA to observe modern teaching and learning practices as they are implemented in classrooms in the United States. Each teacher will assist a teacher in a public school classroom for two weeks in Virginia and another two weeks in Washington.

The purpose behind the orientation sessions conducted over a period of eight days was to introduce the teachers to modern teaching and learning methodologies and to give them an insight into the cultural and professional development experience that they are to undertake. A training module was developed for this purpose in collaboration with Society for Community Support and Primary Teacher Education Baluchistan (SCSPEB).

The CGN-P team was an important part of this exercise conducting sessions on English language, science, mathematics, information technology and culture. By introducing the teachers to the use and implementation of Child Centered practices, an effort was made to ensure that they would be able to make optimal use of their time abroad and would be able to understand the rationale behind the practices used in public schools classrooms in the US.

CGN-P was also responsible for making all the logistical and administrative arrangements for the orientation sessions.
