Children’s Global Network-Pakistan (CGN-P) in collaboration with the Federal Directorate of Education held a certificate distribution ceremony for the graduates of its Intergenerational Family Literacy Program at the Federal Girls Model School G-9 on 5th June ,2009.
The Federal Minister for Education Mr. Mir Hazar Khan Bajrani was the Chief Guest on this occasion. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Federal Directorate of Education including Director General Federal Directorate of Education Mr Attiqque ur Rehman and Director General Trainings and Colleges Mr. Mohammad Rafique Tahir. Deputy Mission Director Mr. Joseph Williams and senior officials from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were also present on this occasion. Teachers, Heads and learners from schools of the FDE and CGN-P staff also attended the ceremony.
The Federal Minister for Education speaking on the occasion highlighted the achievements of the program and congratulated the parents who had just graduated from the program. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equitable education for all in the country and said that they were determined to make all efforts to ensure progress towards the target of universal primary education in Pakistan. The Federal Minister also visited stalls displaying the work of the learners and an Early Childhood Education Center ‘Phulwari’ which was setup to provide the visitors an opportunity to observe CGN’s Phulwari centers catering to the educational needs of 3-5 year olds.
Mr. Joseph Williams appreciated the efforts of the program and stressed the importance of investing in education. He saluted the mothers for their dedicated hard work and their excellent work which was displayed at various stalls at the event. Director General Federal Directorate of Education Mr. Attiqque ur Rehman in his vote of thanks on the occasion thanked USAID for its financial support. He said that increasing the Literacy rate is vital to the economic development of the country and CGN-P is contributing to the country’s development through this program.
Director Trainings and Colleges Mr. Rafique Tahir in his address to the audience spoke about his partnership between the Federal Directorate of Education and CGN-P and how it has progressed to cover all the schools of Federal Directorate of Education. CGN-P Chief Executive Ms. Mehnaz Aziz explained the ideology behind the program and how it has been highly successful in creating a love for learning amongst children and parents alike. She commended the work of the mothers and congratulated them on their achievements.
